CGMO 2003 Problem 1

    Let ABCABC be a triangle. Points DD and EE are on sides ABAB and AC,AC, respectively, and point FF is on line segment DE.DE. Let ADAB=x,\frac {AD}{AB} = x, AEAC=y,\frac {AE}{AC} = y, DFDE=z.\frac {DF}{DE} = z. Prove that

    (1) S△BDF=(1−x)yS△ABCS_{\triangle BDF} = (1 - x)y S_{\triangle ABC} and S△CEF=x(1−y)(1−z)S△ABC;S_{\triangle CEF} = x(1 - y) (1 - z)S_{\triangle ABC};

    (2) S△BDF3+S△CEF3≤S△ABC3.\sqrt [3]{S_{\triangle BDF}} + \sqrt [3]{S_{\triangle CEF}} \leq \sqrt [3]{S_{\triangle ABC}}.
