Problem 3

Problem 4

  • Day 2

Let m,nm, n be positive integers and a1,…,am,b1,…,bna_1,\dots , a_m, b_1, \dots , b_n positive real numbers such that for every positive integer kk we have that (a1k+⋯+amk)−(b1k+⋯+bnk)≤CkN,(a_1^k + \cdots + a^k_m) - (b^k_1 + \cdots + b^k_n) \leq CkN, for some fix CC and NN . Show that there exists l≤m,nl \leq m, n and permutations σ\sigma of {1,…,m}\{1, \dots , m\} and τ\tau of {1,…,n}\{1,\dots , n\} , such that

  1. aσ(i)=bτ(i)a\sigma(i) = b\tau(i) for 1≤i≤l,1 \leq i \leq l, 2. aσ(i),bτ(i)≤1a\sigma(i) , b\tau(i) \leq 1 for i>l.i > l.

Problem 5

  • Day 2

Let S\mathcal{S} be a set of integers. Given a real positive rr, we say that S\mathcal{S} is a rr - discerning, if for any pair m,n>1m, n > 1 of distinct integers such that ∣m−nm+n∣<r\left| \frac{m-n}{m+n} \right| < r, there exists a∈Sa \in \mathcal{S} and k≥1k \geq 1 such that aka^k divides mm but not nn, or aka^k divides nn but not mm

  1. Show that for every r>0r > 0 every rr - discerning set contains an infinite number of primes.

  2. For every r>0r > 0 determine the maximal possible cardinality of P\S\mathcal{P} \backslash \mathcal{S} where P\mathcal{P} is the set of primes and S⊆P\mathcal{S} \subseteq \mathcal{P} is a rr - discerning set.

Problem 6

  • Day 2

Let GG be a simple, connected and finite grafo. A hunter and an invisible rabbit play in the graph GG . The rabbit is initially in a vertex w0w_0 . In the kk -th turn (for k≥0k \geq 0 ) the hunter picks freely a vertex vkv_k . If vk=wkv_k = w_k , the rabbit is capture and the game ends. If not, the rabbit moves invisibly by an edge of wkw_k to wk+1w_{k+1} ( wkw_k and wk+1w_{k+1} are adjacent and therefore distinct) and the game continues. The hunter knows these rules and the graph GG . After the k−k- th turn he knows that wk≠vkw_k \not = v_k , but he gets no more information. Characterize the graphs GG such that the hunter has an strategy that guaranties that he can capture the rabbit in at most NN turns for some positive integer NN . Here NN must depend only on GG and the strategy should work independently of the initial position and trajectory of the rabbit.
