Problem 2

Let Γ\Gamma be a variety of monoids such that not all monoids of Γ\Gamma are groups. Prove that if A∈ΓA \in \Gamma and BB is a submonoid of AA , there exist monoids S∈ΓS \in \Gamma and CC and epimorphisms φ:S→A,  φ1:S→C\varphi : S \rightarrow A, \;\varphi_1 : S \rightarrow C such that ((e)φ1−1)φ=B((e)\varphi_1^{-1})\varphi=B ( ee is the identity element of CC ).

Problem 6

Let us defined a pseudo-Riemannian metric on the set of points of the Euclidean space E3\mathbb{E}^3 not lying on the zz -axis by the metric tensor (10001000−x2+y2),\left( \begin{array}{ccc} 1 & 0 & 0 0 & 1 & 0 0 & 0 & -\sqrt{x^2+y^2} \end{array} \right), where (x,y,z)(x,y,z) is a Cartesian coordinate system E3\mathbb{E}^3 . Show that the orthogonal projections of the geodesic curves of this Riemannian space onto the (x,y)(x,y) -plane are straight lines or conic sections with focus at the origin

Problem 7

Let TT be a triangulation of an nn -dimensional sphere, and to each vertex of TT let us assign a nonzero vector of a linear space VV . Show that if TT has an nn -dimensional simplex such that the vectors assigned to the vertices of this simplex are linearly independent, then another such simplex must also exist.

Problem 8

Let Kn(n=1,2,…)K_n(n=1,2,\ldots) be periodical continuous functions of period 2π2 \pi , and write kn(f;x)=∫02πf(t)Kn(x−t)dt.k_n(f;x)= \int_0^{2\pi}f(t)K_n(x-t)dt . Prove that the following statements are equivalent:

(i) ∫02π∣kn(f;x)−f(x)∣dx→0  (n→∞)\int_0^{2\pi}|k_n(f;x)-f(x)|dx \rightarrow 0 \;(n \rightarrow \infty) for all f∈L1[0,2π]f \in \mathcal{L}_1[0,2 \pi] .

(ii) kn(f;0)→f(0)k_n(f;0) \rightarrow f(0) for all continuous, 2π2 \pi -periodic functions ff .

Problem 9

Let us assume that the series of holomorphic functions ∑k=1∞fk(z)\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}f_k(z) is absolutely convergent for all z∈Cz \in \mathbb{C} . Let H⊆CH \subseteq \mathbb{C} be the set of those points where the above sum funcion is not regular. Prove that HH is nowhere dense but not necessarily countable.
