Day 1

Problem 1

  • Day 1

Let ABCA B C be a triangle and let DD be a point on the segment BC,D≠BB C, D \neq B and D≠CD \neq C. The circle ABDA B D meets the segment ACA C again at an interior point EE. The circle ACDA C D meets the segment ABA B again at an interior point FF. Let A′A^{\prime} be the reflection of AA in the line BCB C. The lines A′CA^{\prime} C and DED E meet at PP, and the lines A′BA^{\prime} B and DFD F meet at QQ. Prove that the lines AD,BPA D, B P and CQC Q are concurrent (or all parallel).

Problem 2

  • Day 1
  • Answer

Given positive integers mm and n≥mn \geq m, determine the largest number of dominoes ( 1×21 \times 2 or 2×12 \times 1 rectangles) that can be placed on a rectangular board with mm rows and 2n2 n columns consisting of cells ( 1×11 \times 1 squares) so that: (i) each domino covers exactly two adjacent cells of the board; (ii) no two dominoes overlap; (iii) no two form a 2×22 \times 2 square; and (iv) the bottom row of the board is completely covered by nn dominoes.

Problem 3

  • Day 1
  • Answer

A cubic sequence is a sequence of integers given by an=n3+bn2+cn+da_{n}=n^{3}+b n^{2}+c n+d, where b,cb, c and dd are integer constants and nn ranges over all integers, including negative integers. (a) Show that there exists a cubic sequence such that the only terms of the sequence which are squares of integers are a2015a_{2015} and a2016a_{2016}. (b) Determine the possible values of a2015⋅a2016a_{2015} \cdot a_{2016} for a cubic sequence satisfying the condition in part (a).

Problem 5

  • Day 2

A convex hexagon A1B1A2B2A3B3A_{1} B_{1} A_{2} B_{2} A_{3} B_{3} is inscribed in a circle Ω\Omega of radius RR. The diagonals A1B2,A2B3A_{1} B_{2}, A_{2} B_{3}, and A3B1A_{3} B_{1} concur at XX. For i=1,2,3i=1,2,3, let ωi\omega_{i} be the circle tangent to the segments XAiX A_{i} and XBiX B_{i}, and to the arc AiBiA_{i} B_{i} of Ω\Omega not containing other vertices of the hexagon; let rir_{i} be the radius of ωi\omega_{i}. (a) Prove that R≥r1+r2+r3R \geq r_{1}+r_{2}+r_{3}. (b) If R=r1+r2+r3R=r_{1}+r_{2}+r_{3}, prove that the six points where the circles ωi\omega_{i} touch the diagonals A1B2,A2B3,A3B1A_{1} B_{2}, A_{2} B_{3}, A_{3} B_{1} are concyclic.

Problem 6

  • Day 2

A set of nn points in Euclidean 3-dimensional space, no four of which are coplanar, is partitioned into two subsets A\mathcal{A} and B\mathcal{B}. An AB\mathcal{A B}-tree is a configuration of n−1n-1 segments, each of which has an endpoint in A\mathcal{A} and the other in B\mathcal{B}, and such that no segments form a closed polyline. An AB\mathcal{A B}-tree is transformed into another as follows: choose three distinct segments A1B1,B1A2A_{1} B_{1}, B_{1} A_{2} and A2B2A_{2} B_{2} in the AB\mathcal{A B}-tree such that A1A_{1} is in A\mathcal{A} and A1B1+A2B2>A1B2+A2B1A_{1} B_{1}+A_{2} B_{2}>A_{1} B_{2}+A_{2} B_{1}, and remove the segment A1B1A_{1} B_{1} to replace it by the segment A1B2A_{1} B_{2}. Given any AB\mathcal{A B}-tree, prove that every sequence of successive transformations comes to an end (no further transformation is possible) after finitely many steps.
