Problem 1

Let nn be a positive integer that is not divisible by either 22 or 55 . In the decimal expansion of 1n=0.a1a2a3⋯\frac{1}{n}= 0.a_1a_2a_3\cdots a finite number of digits after the decimal point are chosen arbitrarily to be deleted. Clearly the decimal number obtained by this procedure is also rational, so it's equal to ab\frac{a}{b} for some integers a,ba,b . Prove that bb is divisible by nn .

Problem 2

Prove that for each natural number nn there is a polynomial ff with real coefficients and degree nn such that p(x)=f(x2−1)p(x)=f(x^2-1) is divisible by f(x)f(x) over the ring R[x]\mathbb{R}[x] .

Problem 3

Prove that x+1xx<2x+\frac{1}{x^x}<2 for 0<x<10<x<1 .

Problem 4

Two vertices A,BA,B of a triangle ABCABC are located on a parabola y=ax2+bx+cy=ax^2 + bx + c with a>0a>0 in such a way that the sides AC,BCAC,BC are tangent to the parabola. Let mcm_c be the length of the median CC1CC_1 of triangle ABCABC and SS be the area of triangle ABCABC . Find S2mc3\frac{S^2}{m_c^3}

Problem 5

Find all positive integers nn such that there are positive integers a1,⋯ ,an,b1,⋯ ,bna_1,\cdots,a_n, b_1,\cdots,b_n that satisfy

(a12+⋯+an2)(b12+⋯+bn2)−(a1b1+⋯+anbn)2=n(a_1^2+\cdots+a_n^2)(b_1^2+\cdots+b_n^2)-(a_1b_1+\cdots+a_nb_n)^2=n

Problem 6

a) Determine if there are matrices A,B,C∈SL2(Z)A,B,C\in\mathrm{SL}_{2}(\mathbb{Z}) such that A2+B2=C2A^2+B^2=C^2 .b) Determine if there are matrices A,B,C∈SL2(Z)A,B,C\in\mathrm{SL}_{2}(\mathbb{Z}) such that A4+B4=C4A^4+B^4=C^4 .Note: The notation A∈SL2(Z)A\in \mathrm{SL}_{2}(\mathbb{Z}) means that AA is a 2×22\times 2 matrix with integer entries and det⁡A=1\det A=1 .

Problem 7

Let AA be an abelian additive group such that all nonzero elements have infinite order and for each prime number pp we have the inequality ∣A/pA∣≤p|A/pA|\leq p , where pA={pa∣a∈A}pA = \{pa |a \in A\} , pa=a+a+⋯+apa = a+a+\cdots+a (where the sum has pp summands) and ∣A/pA∣|A/pA| is the order of the quotient group A/pAA/pA (the index of the subgroup pApA ).

Prove that each subgroup of AA of finite index is isomorphic to AA .
