Problem 1

The circles C1C_1 and C2C_2 with radii r1r_1 and r2r_2 touch the line pp at the point PP . C1C_1 lies entirely within C2C_2 . Line q⊥pq \perp p intersects pp at SS and touches C1C_1 at RR . qq intersects C2C_2 at MM and NN , where NN is between RR and SS . a) Prove that line PRPR bisects angle ∠MPN\angle MPN . b) Calculate the ratio r1:r2r_1 : r_2 if line PNPN bisects angle ∠RPS\angle RPS .

Problem 2

The circuit diagram drawn (see figure ) contains a battery BB , a lamp LL and five switches S1S_1 to S5S_5 . The probability that switch S3S_3 is closed (makes contact) is 23\frac23 , for the other four switches that probability is 12\frac12 (the probabilities are mutually independent). Calculate the probability that the light is on.

LL BB S1S_1 S2S_2 S3S_3 S4S_4 S5S_5

Problem 3

For n=1,2,3,...n = 1,2,3,... . ana_n is defined by: an=1⋅4⋅7⋅...(3n−2)2⋅5⋅8⋅...(3n−1)a_n =\frac{1 \cdot 4 \cdot 7 \cdot ... (3n-2)}{2 \cdot 5 \cdot 8 \cdot ... (3n-1)} Prove that for every nn holds that 13n+1≤an≤13n+13\frac{1}{\sqrt{3n+1}}\le a_n \le \frac{1}{\sqrt[3]{3n+1}}

Problem 4

By placing parentheses in the expression 1:2:31:2:3 we can get two different number values: (1:2):3=16(1 : 2) : 3 = \frac16 and 1:(2:3)=321 : (2 : 3) = \frac32 . Now brackets are placed in the expression 1:2:3:4:5:6:7:81:2:3:4:5:6:7:8 . Multiple bracket pairs are allowed, whether or not in nest form. (a) What is the largest numerical value we can get, and what is the smallest? (b) How many different number values can be obtained?
