Problem 1

Let S\mathcal{S} be a set of size nn, and kk be a positive integer. For each 1≤i≤kn1 \leq i \leq k n, there is a subset Si⊂SS_{i} \subset \mathcal{S} such that ∣Si∣=2\left|S_{i}\right|=2. Furthermore, for each e∈Se \in \mathcal{S}, there are exactly 2k2 k values of ii such that e∈Sie \in S_{i}. Show that it is possible to choose one element from SiS_{i} for each 1≤i≤kn1 \leq i \leq k n such that every element of S\mathcal{S} is chosen exactly kk times.

Problem 2

Find all functions f:R→Rf: \mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{R} such that, for all real numbers x,yx, y,

(x−y)(f(x)−f(y))=f(x−f(y))f(f(x)−y)(x-y)(f(x)-f(y))=f(x-f(y)) f(f(x)-y)

Problem 3

Triangle ABCA B C is inscribed in a circle ω\omega such that ∠A=60∘\angle A=60^{\circ} and ∠B=75∘\angle B=75^{\circ}. Let the bisector of angle AA meet BCB C and ω\omega at EE and DD, respectively. Let the reflections of AA across DD and CC be D′D^{\prime} and C′C^{\prime}, respectively. If the tangent to ω\omega at AA meets line BCB C at PP, and the circumcircle of APD′A P D^{\prime} meets line ACA C at F≠AF \neq A, prove that the circumcircle of C′FEC^{\prime} F E is tangent to BCB C at EE.

Problem 4

A subset U⊂RU \subset \mathbb{R} is open if for any x∈Ux \in U, there exist real numbers a,ba, b such that x∈(a,b)⊂Ux \in(a, b) \subset U. Suppose S⊂RS \subset \mathbb{R} has the property that any open set intersecting (0,1)(0,1) also intersects SS. Let TT be a countable collection of open sets containing SS. Prove that the intersection of all of the sets of TT is not a countable subset of R\mathbb{R}. (A set Γ\Gamma is countable if there exists a bijective function f:Γ→Zf: \Gamma \rightarrow \mathbb{Z}.)

Problem 5

(a) Given a finite set XX of points in the plane, let fX(n)f_{X}(n) be the largest possible area of a polygon with at most nn vertices, all of which are points of XX. Prove that if m,nm, n are integers with m≥n>2m \geq n>2, then fX(m)+fX(n)≥fX(m+1)+fX(n−1)f_{X}(m)+f_{X}(n) \geq f_{X}(m+1)+f_{X}(n-1). (b) Let P0P_{0} be a 1-by-2 rectangle (including its interior), and inductively define the polygon PiP_{i} to be the result of folding Pi−1P_{i-1} over some line that cuts Pi−1P_{i-1} into two connected parts. The diameter of a polygon PiP_{i} is the maximum distance between two points of PiP_{i}. Determine the smallest possible diameter of P2013P_{2013}. (In other words, given a polygon Pi−1P_{i-1}, a fold of Pi−1P_{i-1} consists of a line ll dividing Pi−1P_{i-1} into two connected parts AA and BB, and the folded polygon Pi=A∪BlP_{i}=A \cup B_{l}, where BlB_{l} is the reflection of BB over the line l.)
