Problem 1

Pedro must choose two irreducible fractions, each with a positive numerator and denominator such that:

  • The sum of the fractions is equal to 22 .
  • The sum of the numerators of the fractions is equal to 10001000 .

In how many ways can Pedro do this?

Problem 2

On a line, 4444 points are marked and numbered 1,2,3,…,441, 2, 3,…,44 from left to right. Various crickets jump around the line. Each starts at point 11 , jumping on the marked points and ending up at point 4444 . In addition, each cricket jumps from a marked point to another marked point with a greater number. When all the crickets have finished jumping, it turns out that for pair i,ji, j with 1≤i<j≤44{1}\leq{i}<{j}\leq{44} , there was a cricket that jumped directly from point ii to point jj , without visiting any of the points in between the two. Determine the smallest number of crickets such that this is possible.

Problem 3

Let us define cutting a convex polygon with nn sides by choosing a pair of consecutive sides ABAB and BCBC and substituting them by three segments AM,MNAM, MN , and NCNC , where MM is the midpoint of ABAB and NN is the midpoint of BCBC . In other words, the triangle MBNMBN is removed and a convex polygon with n+1n+1 sides is obtained. Let P6P_6 be a regular hexagon with area 11 . P6P_6 is cut and the polygon P7P_7 is obtained. Then P7P_7 is cut in one of seven ways and polygon P8P_8 is obtained, and so on. Prove that, regardless of how the cuts are made, the area of PnP_n is always greater than 2/32/3 .

Problem 5

The incircle of triangle ABCABC touches sides BCBC , ACAC , and ABAB at D,ED, E , and FF respectively. Let ωa,ωb\omega_a, \omega_b and ωc\omega_c be the circumcircles of triangles EAF,DBFEAF, DBF , and DCEDCE , respectively. The lines DEDE and DFDF cut ωa\omega_a at Ea≠EE_a\neq{E} and Fa≠FF_a\neq{F} , respectively. Let rAr_A be the line EaFaE_{a}F_a . Let rBr_B and rCr_C be defined analogously. Show that the lines rAr_A , rBr_B , and rCr_C determine a triangle with its vertices on the sides of triangle ABCABC .

Problem 6

Determine if there exists an infinite sequence a0,a1,a2,a3,...a_0, a_1, a_2, a_3,... of nonegative integers that satisfies the following conditions: (i) All nonegative integers appear in the sequence exactly once. (ii) The succession bn=an+n,b_n=a_{n}+n, , n≥0n\geq0 , is formed by all prime numbers and each one appears exactly once.
