BxMO 2009 Problem 3

Let n≥1n\ge 1 be an integer. In town XX there are nn girls and nn boys, and each girl knows each boy. In town YY there are nn girls, g1,g2,…,gng_1,g_2,\ldots ,g_n , and 2n−12n-1 boys, b1,b2,…,b2n−1b_1,b_2,\ldots ,b_{2n-1} . For i=1,2,…,ni=1,2,\ldots ,n , girl gig_i knows boys b1,b2,…,b2i−1b_1,b_2,\ldots ,b_{2i-1} and no other boys. Let rr be an integer with 1≤r≤n1\le r\le n . In each of the towns a party will be held where rr girls from that town and rr boys from the same town are supposed to dance with each other in rr dancing pairs. However, every girl only wants to dance with a boy she knows. Denote by X(r)X(r) the number of ways in which we can choose rr dancing pairs from town XX , and by Y(r)Y(r) the number of ways in which we can choose rr dancing pairs from town YY . Prove that X(r)=Y(r)X(r)=Y(r) for r=1,2,…,nr=1,2,\ldots ,n .
