BALKAN-SL 2017 A4

  • Answer

Let M={(a,b,c)∈R3:0<a,b,c<12M=\left\{(a, b, c) \in \mathbb{R}^{3}: 0<a, b, c<\frac{1}{2}\right. with a+b+c=1}\left.a+b+c=1\right\} and f:M→Rf: M \rightarrow \mathbb{R} given as

f(a,b,c)=4(1a+1b+1c)−1abcf(a, b, c)=4\left(\frac{1}{a}+\frac{1}{b}+\frac{1}{c}\right)-\frac{1}{a b c}

Find the best (real) bounds α\alpha and β\beta such that

f(M)={f(a,b,c):(a,b,c)∈M}⊆[α,β]f(M)=\{f(a, b, c):(a, b, c) \in M\} \subseteq[\alpha, \beta]

and determine whether any of them is achievable.

\alpha=8 \text{ not achievable and } \beta=9 \text{ achievable}
