ZA-SAMO 2009 Problem 6

    Let AA denote the set of real numbers xx such that 0≤x<10\le x<1 . A function f:A→Rf:A\to \mathbb{R} has the properties:

    (i) f(x)=2f(x2)f(x)=2f(\frac{x}{2}) for all x∈Ax\in A ;

    (ii) f(x)=1−f(x−12)f(x)=1-f(x-\frac{1}{2}) if 12≤x<1\frac{1}{2}\le x<1 .

    Prove that

    (a) f(x)+f(1−x)≥23f(x)+f(1-x)\ge \frac{2}{3} if xx is rational and 0<x<10<x<1 .

    (b) There are infinitely many odd positive integers qq such that equality holds in (a) when x=1qx=\frac{1}{q} .
