Other problems

Problem 1

ABCDABCD is a convex quadrilateral with perimeter pp . Prove that 12p<AC+BD<p.\dfrac{1}{2}p < AC + BD < p. (A polygon is convex if all of its interior angles are less than 180∘180^\circ .)

Problem 2

Find all triples (x,y,z)(x,y,z) of real numbers that satisfy x(1−y2)(1−z2)+y(1−z2)(1−x2)+z(1−x2)(1−y2)=4xyz=4(x+y+z).\begin{aligned} & x\left(1 - y^2\right)\left(1 - z^2\right) + y\left(1 - z^2\right)\left(1 - x^2\right) + z\left(1 - x^2\right)\left(1 - y^2\right) & = 4xyz & = 4(x + y + z). \end{aligned}

Problem 3

For a certain real number xx , the differences between x1919x^{1919} , x1960x^{1960} and x2001x^{2001} are all integers. Prove that xx is an integer.

Problem 4

nn red and nn blue points on a plane are given so that no three of the 2n2n points are collinear. Prove that it is always possible to split up the points into nn pairs, with one red and one blue point in each pair, so that no two of the nn line segments which connect the two members of a pair intersect.

Problem 5

Starting from a given cyclic quadrilateral Q0\mathcal{Q}_0 , a sequence of quadrilaterals is constructed so that Qk+1\mathcal{Q}_{k + 1} is the circumscribed quadrilateral of Qk\mathcal{Q}_k for k=0,1,…k = 0,1,\dots . The sequence terminates when a quadrilateral is reached that is not cyclic. (The circumscribed quadrilateral of a cylic quadrilateral ABCDABCD has sides that are tangent to the circumcircle of ABCDABCD at AA , BB , CC and DD .) Prove that the sequence always terminates, except when Q0\mathcal{Q}_0 is a square.

Problem 6

The unknown real numbers x1,x2,…,xnx_1,x_2,\dots,x_n satisfy x1<x2<⋯<xn,x_1 < x_2 < \cdots < x_n, where n≥3n \geq 3 . The numbers ss , tt and d1,d2,…,dn−2d_1,d_2,\dots,d_{n - 2} are given, such that s=∑i=1nxi,t=∑i=1nxi2,di=xi+2−xi,  i=1,2,…,n−2.\begin{aligned} s & = \sum\limits_{i = 1}^nx_i, t & = \sum\limits_{i = 1}^nx_i^2, d_i & = x_{i + 2} - x_i,\ \ i = 1,2,\dots,n - 2. \end{aligned} For which nn is this information always sufficient to determine x1,x2,…,xnx_1,x_2,\dots,x_n uniquely?
