Problem 1

A school has two classes AA and BB which have mm and nn students each. The students of the two classes sit in a circle. Each student is then given a number of candies equal to the number of consecutive students sitting to the left of him that are from his same class. After distributing the candies, the teacher decides to group the students such that in each group, all the students receive the same amount of candies, and any two students from two different groups should receive a different amount of candies.

a) What is the maximum number of students that a group can have? b) Excluding the group where every student receives no candies, what is the maximum number of students that a group can have?

Problem 2

Given three functions P(x)=(x2−1)2023,Q(x)=(2x+1)14,R(x)=(2x+1+2x)34.P(x) = (x^2-1)^{2023}, Q(x) = (2x+1)^{14}, R(x) = \left(2x+1+\frac 2x \right)^{34}. Initially, we pick a set SS containing two of these functions, and we perform some operations on it. Allowed operations include:

  • We can take two functions p,q∈Sp,q \in S and add one of p+q,p−qp+q, p-q , or pqpq to SS .
  • We can take a function p∈Sp \in S and add pkp^k to SS for kk is an arbitrary positive integer of our choice.
  • We can take a function p∈Sp \in S and choose a real number tt , and add to SS one of the function p+t,p−t,ptp+t, p-t, pt .

Show that no matter how we pick SS in the beginning, there is no way we can perform finitely many operations on SS that would eventually yield the third function not in SS .

Problem 3

Let ABCABC be an acute, non-isosceles triangle with circumcircle (O)(O) . BE,CFBE, CF are the heights of △ABC\triangle ABC , and BE,CFBE, CF intersect at HH . Let MM be the midpoint of AHAH , and KK be the point on EFEF such that HK⊥EFHK \perp EF . A line not going through AA and parallel to BCBC intersects the minor arc ABAB and ACAC of (O)(O) at PP , QQ , respectively.

Show that the tangent line of (CQE)(CQE) at EE , the tangent line of (BPF)(BPF) at FF , and MKMK concur.

Problem 4

Given are two coprime positive integers a,ba, b with bb odd and a>2a>2 . The sequence (xn)(x_n) is defined by x0=2,x1=ax_0=2, x_1=a and xn+2=axn+1+bxnx_{n+2}=ax_{n+1}+bx_n for n≥1n \geq 1 . Prove that: a)a) If aa is even then there do not exist positive integers m,n,pm, n, p such that xmxnxp\frac{x_m} {x_nx_p} is a positive integer. b)b) If aa is odd then there do not exist positive integers m,n,pm, n, p such that mnpmnp is even and xmxnxp\frac{x_m} {x_nx_p} is a perfect square.

Problem 5

Let ABCDABCD be a convex quadrilateral with ∠B<∠A<90o\angle B < \angle A < 90^{o} . Let II be the midpoint of ABAB and SS the intersection of ADAD and BCBC . Let RR be a variable point inside the triangle SABSAB such that ∠ASR=∠BSR\angle ASR = \angle BSR . On the straight lines AR,BRAR, BR , take the points E,FE, F , respectively so that BE,AFBE , AF are parallel to RSRS . Suppose that EFEF intersects the circumcircle of triangle SABSAB at points H,KH, K . On the segment ABAB , take points M,NM , N such that ∠AHM=∠BHI\angle AHM =\angle BHI , ∠BKN=∠AKI\angle BKN = \angle AKI .

a) Prove that the center JJ of the circumcircle of triangle SMNSMN lies on a fixed line.

b) On BE,AFBE, AF , take the points P,QP, Q respectively so that CPCP is parallel to SESE and DQDQ is parallel to SFSF . The lines SE,SFSE, SF intersect the circle (SAB)(SAB) , respectively, at U,VU, V . Let GG be the intersection of AUAU and BVBV . Prove that the median of vertex GG of the triangle GPQGPQ always passes through a fixed point .

Problem 6

Let n≥3n \ge 3 be an integer and SS be a set of nn elements. Determine the largest integer knk_n such that: for each selection of knk_n 3−3- subsets of SS , there exists a way to color elements of SS with two colors such that none of the chosen 3−3- subset is monochromatic.
