Day 1

Problem 1

  • Day 1

A stick is defined as a 1×k1 \times k or k×1k\times 1 rectangle for any integer k≥1k \ge 1 . We wish to partition the cells of a 2022×20222022 \times 2022 chessboard into mm non-overlapping sticks, such that any two of these mm sticks share at most one unit of perimeter. Determine the smallest mm for which this is possible.

Problem 2

  • Day 1

A function ψ ⁣:Z→Z\psi \colon {\mathbb Z} \to {\mathbb Z} is said to be zero-requiem if for any positive integer nn and any integers a1a_1 , …\ldots , ana_n (not necessarily distinct), the sums a1+a2+⋯+ana_1 + a_2 + \dots + a_n and ψ(a1)+ψ(a2)+⋯+ψ(an)\psi(a_1) + \psi(a_2) + \dots + \psi(a_n) are not both zero.

Let ff and gg be two zero-requiem functions for which f∘gf \circ g and g∘fg \circ f are both the identity function (that is, ff and gg are mutually inverse bijections). Given that f+gf+g is not a zero-requiem function, prove that f∘ff \circ f and g∘gg \circ g are both zero-requiem.

Problem 3

  • Day 1

Point PP lies in the interior of a triangle ABCABC . Lines APAP , BPBP , and CPCP meet the opposite sides of triangle ABCABC at AA ', B′B' , and C′C' respectively. Let PAP_A the midpoint of the segment joining the incenters of triangles BPC′BPC' and CPB′CPB' , and define points PBP_B and PCP_C analogously. Show that if AB′+BC′+CA′=AC′+BA′+CB′AB'+BC'+CA'=AC'+BA'+CB' then points P,PA,PB,P,P_A,P_B, and PCP_C are concyclic.
