US-EGMO-TST 2020 Problem 5

Let G=(V,E)G = (V, E) be a finite simple graph on nn vertices. An edge ee of GG is called a bottleneck if one can partition VV into two disjoint sets AA and BB such that

    • at most 100100 edges of GG have one endpoint in AA and one endpoint in BB ; and
    • the edge ee is one such edge (meaning the edge ee also has one endpoint in AA and one endpoint in BB ).

Prove that at most 100n100n edges of GG are bottlenecks.
