RU-ALLRUSSIAN 1972 Problem 5

    A sequence of finite sets of positive integers is defined as follows. S0={m}\mathrm{S_0 = \{m\}} , where m>1\mathrm{m > 1} . Then given Sn\mathrm{S_n} you derive Sn+1\mathrm{S_{n + 1}} by taking k2\mathrm{k^2} and k+1\mathrm{k + 1} for each element k of Sn\mathrm{S_n} . For example, if S0={5}\mathrm{S_0 = \{5\}} , then S2={7,26,36,625}\mathrm{S_2 = \{7, 26, 36, 625\}} . Show that Sn\mathrm{S_n} always has 2n2^{\mathrm{n}} distinct elements.
