  • Session B

For any real number α\alpha, define the function fα(x)=⌊αx⌋f_{\alpha}(x) = \lfloor \alpha x \rfloor. Let nn be a positive integer. Show that there exists an α\alpha such that for 1≤k≤n1 \leq k \leq n, fαk(n2)=n2−k=fαk(n2).f_\alpha^k(n^2) = n^2 - k = f_{\alpha^k}(n^2).
