Problem 1

For any positive integer nn let n!=1×2×3×⋯×nn! = 1 \times 2 \times 3 \times \dots \times n . Do there exist infinitely many triples (p,q,r)(p, q, r) , of positive integers with p>q>r>1p > q > r > 1 such that the product

p!⋅q!⋅r!p!\cdot q!\cdot r!

is a perfect square?

Problem 2

Let aa , bb and cc be positive real numbers such that a+b+c=abca + b + c = abc . Prove that at least one of aa , bb or cc is greater than 1710\frac{17}{10} .

Problem 3

Find the sum of the smallest and largest possible values for xx which satisfy the following equation.

9x+1+2187=36x−x29^{x + 1} + 2187 = 3^{6x - x^{2}}

Problem 4

Let pp be a prime and let f(x)=ax2+bx+cf(x) = ax^{2} + bx + c be a quadratic polynomial with integer coefficients such that 0<a,b,c≤p0 < a, b, c \leq p . Suppose f(x)f(x) is divisible by pp whenever xx is a positive integer. Find all possible values of a+b+ca + b + c .

Problem 5

Let xx , yy and zz be real numbers such that: x2=y+2x^{2} = y + 2 , and y2=z+2y^{2} = z + 2 , and z2=x+2z^{2} = x + 2 . Prove that x+y+zx + y + z is an integer.

Problem 6

Let triangle ABCABC be right-angled at AA . Let DD be the point on ACAC such that BDBD bisects angle ∠ABC\angle ABC . Prove that BC−BD=2ABBC - BD = 2AB if and only if 1BD−1BC=12AB\frac{1}{BD} - \frac{1}{BC} = \frac{1}{2AB} .

Problem 7

Let n,mn,m be positive integers. Let A1,A2,A3,…,AmA_{1},A_{2},A_{3},\ldots ,A_{m} be sets such that Ai⊆{1,2,3,…,n}A_{i}\subseteq \{1,2,3,\ldots ,n\} and ∣Ai∣=3|A_{i}| = 3 for all ii (i.e. AiA_{i} consists of three different positive integers each at most nn ). Suppose for all i<ji< j we have

∣Ai∩Aj∣⩽1|A_{i}\cap A_{j}|\leqslant 1

(i.e. AiA_{i} and AjA_{j} have at most one element in common).

(a) Prove that m⩽n(n−1)6m\leqslant \frac{n(n - 1)}{6} .

(b) Show that for all n≥3n\geq 3 it is possible to have m⩾(n−1)(n−2)6m\geqslant \frac{(n - 1)(n - 2)}{6} .

Problem 8

Find all non-zero real numbers a,b,ca, b, c such that the following polynomial has four (not necessarily distinct) positive real roots.

P(x)=ax4−8ax3+bx2−32cx+16cP(x) = ax^{4} - 8ax^{3} + bx^{2} - 32cx + 16c
