Problem 1

Let ABA B be a diameter of a circle with centre OO. We choose a point CC on the circumference of the circle such that OCO C and ABA B are perpendicular to each other. Let PP be an arbitrary point on the (smaller) arc BCB C and let the lines CPC P and ABA B meet at QQ. We choose RR on APA P so that RQR Q and ABA B are perpendicular to each other. Show that ∣BQ∣=∣QR∣|B Q|=|Q R|.

Problem 2

Messages are coded using sequences consisting of zeroes and ones only. Only sequences with at most two consecutive ones or zeroes are allowed. (For instance the sequence 011001 is allowed, but 011101 is not.) Determine the number of sequences consisting of exactly 12 numbers.

Problem 3

Let n≥2n \geq 2 and let x1,x2,…xnx_{1}, x_{2}, \ldots x_{n} be real numbers satisfying x1+x2+…+xn≥0x_{1}+x_{2}+\ldots+x_{n} \geq 0 and x12+x22+…+xn2=1x_{1}^{2}+x_{2}^{2}+\ldots+x_{n}^{2}=1. Let M=max⁡{x1,x2,…,xn}M=\max \left\{x_{1}, x_{2}, \ldots, x_{n}\right\}. Show that

M≥1n(n−1)M \geq \frac{1}{\sqrt{n(n-1)}}

When does equality hold in (1)?

Problem 4

Show that there exist infinitely many mutually non-congruent triangles TT, satisfying

(i) The side lengths of TT are consecutive integers.

(ii) The area of TT is an integer.
