Problem 1

A palindrome is a word that doesn't matter if you read it from left to right or from right to left. Examples: OMO, lepel and parterretrap. How many palindromes can you make with the five letters a,b,c,da, b, c, d and ee under the conditions:

  • each letter may appear no more than twice in each palindrome,
  • the length of each palindrome is at least 33 letters. (Any possible combination of letters is considered a word.)

Problem 2

Given is a acute angled triangle ABCABC . The lengths of the altitudes from A,BA, B and CC are successively hA,hBh_A, h_B and hCh_C . Inside the triangle is a point PP . The distance from PP to BCBC is 1/3hA1/3 h_A and the distance from PP to ACAC is 1/4hB1/4 h_B . Express the distance from PP to ABAB in terms of hCh_C .

Problem 3

1+2+3+4+5+6=6+7+81+2+3+4+5+6=6+7+8 . What is the smallest number kk greater than 66 for which: 1+2+...+k=k+(k+1)+...+n1 + 2 +...+ k = k + (k+1) +...+ n , with nn an integer greater than kk ?

Problem 4

Given is triangle ABCABC with an inscribed circle with center MM and radius rr . The tangent to this circle parallel to BCBC intersects ACAC in DD and ABAB in EE . The tangent to this circle parallel to ACAC intersects ABAB in FF and BCBC in GG . The tangent to this circle parallel to ABAB intersects BCBC in HH and ACAC in KK . Name the centers of the inscribed circles of triangle AEDAED , triangle FBGFBG and triangle KHCKHC successively MA,MB,MCM_A, M_B, M_C and the rays successively rA,rBr_A, r_B and rCr_C . Prove that rA+rB+rC=rr_A + r_B + r_C = r .

Problem 5

Player AA and player BB play the next game on an 88 by 88 square chessboard. They in turn color a field that is not yet colored. One player uses red and the other blue. Player AA starts. The winner is the first person to color the four squares of a square of 22 by 22 squares with his color somewhere on the board. Prove that player BB can always prevent player AA from winning.
