Problem 1

Show that any subset of V={1,2,...,24,25}V= \{ 1,2,...,24,25 \} with 1717 or more elements contains at least two distinct numbers the product of which is a perfect square.

Problem 2

In a triangle ABCABC with ∠A=90∘\angle A=90^{\circ} , DD is the midpoint of BCBC , FF that of ABAB , EE that of AFAF and GG that of FBFB . Segment ADAD intersects CE,CFCE,CF and CGCG in P,QP,Q and RR , respectively. Determine the ratio: PQQR\frac{PQ}{QR} .

Problem 3

A sequence of numbers is defined by u1=a,u2=bu_1=a, u_2=b and un+1=un+un−12u_{n+1}=\frac{u_n+u_{n-1}}{2} for n≥2n \ge 2 . Prove that lim⁡n→∞un\lim_{n\to\infty}u_n exists and express its value in terms of aa and bb .

Problem 4

Let CC be a circle with center MM in a plane VV , and PP be a point not on the circle CC . (a)(a) If PP is fixed, prove that AP2+BP2AP^2+BP^2 is a constant for every diameter ABAB of the circle CC . (b)(b) Let ABAB be a fixed diameter of CC and PP a point on a fixed sphere SS not intersecting VV . Determine the points PP on SS that minimize AP2+BP2AP^2+BP^2 .

Problem 5
