Other problems

Problem 1

In this exercise we only consider convex quadrilaterals.

(a) For such a quadrilateral ABCDABCD , determine the set of points PP contained within that quadrilateral for which PAPA and PCPC divide the quadrilateral into two pieces of equal areas.

(b) Prove that there is a point PP inside such a quadrilateral, such that the triangles PABPAB and PCDPCD have equal areas, as well as the triangles PBCPBC and PADPAD .

(c) Find out which quadrilaterals ABCDABCD contains a point PP , so that the triangles PABPAB , PBCPBC , PCDPCD and PDAPDA have equal areas.

Problem 2

Consider arithmetic sequences where all terms are natural numbers. If the first term of such a sequence is 11 , prove that that sequence contains infinitely many terms that are the cube of a natural number. Give an example of such a sequence in which no term is the cube of a natural number and show the correctness of this example.

Problem 3

The convex pentagon ABCDEABC DE is given, such that AB,BC,CDAB,BC,CD and DEDE are parallel to one of the diagonals. Prove that this also applies to EAEA .

Problem 4

The following applies: a,b,c,d>0,a+b<c+da, b, c, d > 0 , a + b < c + d Prove that ac+bd>ab.ac + bd > ab.

Problem 5

Consider rows of the form: [x],[2x],[3x],...[x], [2x], [3x], ... Proof that, if N∈NN \in N does not occur in the sequence ([nx])([n x]) , then there is an n∈Nn \in N with n−1<Nx<n−1xn - 1 < \frac{N}{x}< n -\frac{1}{x} Prove that, for x,y∉Qx, y \notin Q : 1x+1y=1\frac{1}{x}+\frac{1}{y} = 1 , then each N∈NN \in N term is either of ([nx])([nx]) or of ([ny])([ny]) .
