Other problems

Problem 1

Prove that for each positive integer nn there are at most two pairs (a,b)(a, b) of positive integers with following two properties: (i) a2+b=na^2 + b = n , (ii) a+ba+b is a power of two, i.e. there is an integer k≥0k \ge 0 such that a+b=2ka+b = 2^k .

Problem 2

Let ΔABC\Delta ABC be a triangle with an inscribed circle centered at II . The line perpendicular to AIAI at II intersects ⊙(ABC)\odot (ABC) at P,QP,Q such that, PP lies closer to BB than CC . Let ⊙(BIP)∩⊙(CIQ)=S\odot (BIP) \cap \odot (CIQ) =S . Prove that, SISI is the angle bisector of ∠PSQ\angle PSQ

Problem 3

Let xx and yy be positive real numbers.

  1. Prove: if x3−y3≥4xx^3 - y^3 \ge 4x , then x2>2yx^2 > 2y .
  2. Prove: if x5−y3≥2xx^5 - y^3 \ge 2x , then x3≥2yx^3 \ge 2y .

Problem 4

Do there exist a positive integer kk and a non-constant sequence a1,a2,a3,...a_1, a_2, a_3, ... of positive integers such that an=gcd(an+k,an+k+1)a_n = gcd(a_{n+k}, a_{n+k+1}) for all positive integers nn ?
