Problem 1

In a circle C1C_1 with centre OO , let ABAB be a chord that is not a diameter. Let MM be the midpoint of this chord ABAB . Take a point TT on the circle C2C_2 with OMOM as diameter. Let the tangent to C2C_2 at TT meet C1C_1 at PP . Show that PA2+PB2=4⋅PT2PA^2 + PB^2 = 4 \cdot PT^2 .

Problem 2

Let aa and bb be two positive rational numbers such that a3+b3\sqrt[3] {a} + \sqrt[3]{b} is also a rational number. Prove that a3\sqrt[3]{a} and b3\sqrt[3] {b} themselves are rational numbers.

Problem 3

Let p,q,r,sp , q, r , s be four integers such that ss is not divisible by 55 . If there is an integer aa such that pa3+qa2+ra+spa^3 + qa^2+ ra +s is divisible be 5, prove that there is an integer bb such that sb3+rb2+qb+psb^3 + rb^2 + qb + p is also divisible by 5.

Problem 4

Suppose ABCDABCD is a cyclic quadrilateral inscribed in a circle of radius one unit. If AB⋅BC⋅CD⋅DA≥4AB \cdot BC \cdot CD \cdot DA \geq 4 , prove that ABCDABCD is a square.

Problem 5

Suppose a,b,ca,b,c are three rela numbers such that the quadratic equation x2−(a+b+c)x+(ab+bc+ca)=0x^2 - (a +b +c )x + (ab +bc +ca) = 0 has roots of the form α+iβ\alpha + i \beta where α>0\alpha > 0 and β≠0\beta \not= 0 are real numbers. Show that (i) The numbers a,b,ca,b,c are all positive. (ii) The numbers a,b,c\sqrt{a}, \sqrt{b} , \sqrt{c} form the sides of a triangle.

Problem 6

It is desired to choose nn integers from the collection of 2n2n integers, namely, 0,0,1,1,2,2,…,n−1,n−10,0,1,1,2,2,\ldots,n-1,n-1 such that the average of these nn chosen integers is itself an integer and as minimum as possible. Show that this can be done for each positive integer nn and find this minimum value for each nn .
