Day 1

Problem 1

  • Day 1

Determine all three-digit numbers NN having the property that NN is divisible by 11, and N11\dfrac{N}{11} is equal to the sum of the squares of the digits of NN .

Answer, solutions and source

Problem 2

  • Day 1

For what values of the variable xx does the following inequality hold: 4x2(1−2x+1)2<2x+9 ?\dfrac{4x^2}{(1-\sqrt{2x+1})^2}<2x+9 \ ?

Problem 3

  • Day 1

In a given right triangle ABCABC , the hypotenuse BCBC , of length aa , is divided into nn equal parts ( nn and odd integer). Let α\alpha be the acute angel subtending, from AA , that segment which contains the mdipoint of the hypotenuse. Let hh be the length of the altitude to the hypotenuse fo the triangle. Prove that: tan⁡α=4nh(n2−1)a.\tan{\alpha}=\dfrac{4nh}{(n^2-1)a}.

Day 2

Problem 4

  • Day 2

Construct triangle ABCABC , given hah_a , hbh_b (the altitudes from AA and BB ), and mam_a , the median from vertex AA .

Problem 5

  • Day 2

Consider the cube ABCDA′B′C′D′ABCDA'B'C'D' (with face ABCDABCD directly above face A′B′C′D′A'B'C'D' ).

a) Find the locus of the midpoints of the segments XYXY , where XX is any point of ACAC and YY is any piont of B′D′B'D' ;

b) Find the locus of points ZZ which lie on the segment XYXY of part a) with ZY=2XZZY=2XZ .

Problem 6

  • Day 2

Consider a cone of revolution with an inscribed sphere tangent to the base of the cone. A cylinder is circumscribed about this sphere so that one of its bases lies in the base of the cone. let V1V_1 be the volume of the cone and V2V_2 be the volume of the cylinder.

a) Prove that V1≠V2V_1 \neq V_2 ;

b) Find the smallest number kk for which V1=kV2V_1=kV_2 ; for this case, construct the angle subtended by a diamter of the base of the cone at the vertex of the cone.
