The length of the line segment $MN$ joining the midpoints of sides $AB$ and $CD$ in a convex quadrilateral $ABCD$ is the arithmetic mean of the lengths of sides $AD$ and $BC$. Show that the quadrilateral $ABCD$ is a trapezium.
