EGMO 2026 Problem 4

  • Day 2

Let 1=a1≥a2≥a3≥⋯1 = a_1 \geq a_2 \geq a_3 \geq \cdots be an infinite sequence of real numbers such that an=a2n+a2n+1a_n = a_{2n} + a_{2n+1} for all positive integers nn. For r=20262026r = 2026^{2026}, prove that

1r≤ar≤2r+1.\frac{1}{r} \leq a_r \leq \frac{2}{r+1}.
