DE-MO 2009 Problem 3

Let ABCDABCD be a (non-degenerate) quadrangle and NN the intersection of ACAC and BDBD . Denote by a,b,c,da,b,c,d the length of the altitudes from NN to AB,BC,CD,DAAB,BC,CD,DA , respectively.

Prove that 1a+1c=1b+1d\frac{1}{a}+\frac{1}{c} = \frac{1}{b}+\frac{1}{d} if ABCDABCD has an incircle.

Extension: Prove that the converse is true, too.
