Problem 1

Find all natural numbers nn with the following property: Given the decimal writing of nn , adding a few digits one can obtain the decimal writing of 1996n1996n .

Problem 2

Let aa and bb be positive real numbers smaller than 11 . Prove that the following two statements are equivalent: (i) a+b=1a+b = 1 , (ii) Whenever x,yx,y are positive real numbers such that x<1,y<1,ax+by<1x < 1, y < 1, ax+by < 1 , the following inequlity holds: 11−ax−by≤a1−x+b1−y\frac{1}{1-ax-by} \le \frac{a}{1-x} + \frac{b}{1-y}

Problem 3

Let be given an arbitrary tetrahedron ABCDABCD with volume VV . Consider all lines which pass through the barycenter SS of the tetrahedron and intersect the edges AD,BD,CDAD,BD,CD at points A′,B′,CA',B',C respectively. It is known that among the obtained tetrahedra there exists one with the minimal volume. Express this minimal volume in terms of VV

Problem 4

Find all pairs of real numbers (x,y)(x,y) which satisfy the system {x−y=7x23+xy3+y23=7\begin{cases} x-y = 7 \sqrt[3]{x^2}+\sqrt[3]{xy}+\sqrt[3]{y^2} = 7\end{cases}

Problem 5

Given two non-intersecting chords ABAB and CDCD of a circle kk and a length a<CDa <CD . Determine a point XX on kk with the following property: If lines XAXA and XBXB intersect CDCD at points PP and QQ respectively, then PQ=aPQ = a . Show how to construct all such points XX and prove that the obtained points indeed have the desired property.
