Other problems

Problem 1

Solve the equation x⋅[x⋅[x⋅[x]]]=88x\cdot [x\cdot [x \cdot [x]]] = 88 in the set of real numbers.

Problem 2

Given any set of 1414 (different) natural numbers, prove that for some kk ( 1≤k≤71 \le k \le 7 ) there exist two disjoint kk -element subsets {a1,...,ak}\{a_1,...,a_k\} and {b1,...,bk}\{b_1,...,b_k\} such that A=1a1+1a2+...+1akA =\frac{1}{a_1}+\frac{1}{a_2}+...+\frac{1}{a_k} and B=1b1+1b2+...+1bkB =\frac{1}{b_1}+\frac{1}{b_2}+...+\frac{1}{b_k} differ by less than 0.0010.001 , i.e. ∣A−B∣<0.001|A-B| < 0.001

Problem 3

A sphere is inscribed in a tetrahedron ABCDABCD . The tangent planes to the sphere parallel to the faces of the tetrahedron cut off four smaller tetrahedra. Prove that sum of all the 2424 edges of the smaller tetrahedra equals twice the sum of edges of the tetrahedron ABCDABCD .

Problem 4

For each date of year 19981998 , we calculate day month^{month} -year and determine the greatest power of 33 that divides it. For example, for April 2121 we get 214−1998=192483=33⋅712921^4 - 1998 =192483 = 3^3 \cdot 7129 , which is divisible by 333^3 and not by 343^4 . Find all dates for which this power of 33 is the greatest.

Problem 5

A circle kk and a point AA outside it are given in the plane. Prove that all trapezoids, whose non-parallel sides meet at AA , have the same intersection of diagonals.

Problem 6

Let a,b,ca,b,c be positive numbers. Prove that a triangle with sides a,b,ca,b,c exists if and only if the system of equations {yz+zy=axzx+xz=byxy+yx=cz\begin{cases}\dfrac{y}{z}+\dfrac{z}{y}=\dfrac{a}{x} \dfrac{z}{x}+\dfrac{x}{z}=\dfrac{b}{y} \dfrac{x}{y}+\dfrac{y}{x}=\dfrac{c}{z}\end{cases} has a real solution.
