OMCC 2010

Centroamerican and Caribbean Mathematical Olympiad 2010.

Day 1

Problem 1

  • Day 1

Denote by S(n)S(n) the sum of the digits of the positive integer nn . Find all the solutions of the equation n(S(n)−1)=2010.n(S(n)-1)=2010.

Problem 2

  • Day 1

Let ABCABC be a triangle and LL , MM , NN be the midpoints of BCBC , CACA and ABAB , respectively. The tangent to the circumcircle of ABCABC at AA intersects LMLM and LNLN at PP and QQ , respectively. Show that CPCP is parallel to BQBQ .

Problem 3

  • Day 1

A token is placed in one square of a m×nm\times n board, and is moved according to the following rules:

  • In each turn, the token can be moved to a square sharing a side with the one currently occupied.
  • The token cannot be placed in a square that has already been occupied.
  • Any two consecutive moves cannot have the same direction.

The game ends when the token cannot be moved. Determine the values of mm and nn for which, by placing the token in some square, all the squares of the board will have been occupied in the end of the game.

Day 2

Problem 4

  • Day 2

Find all positive integers NN such that an N×NN\times N board can be tiled using tiles of size 5×55\times 5 or 1×31\times 3 .

Note: The tiles must completely cover all the board, with no overlappings.

Problem 5

  • Day 2

If pp , qq and rr are nonzero rational numbers such that pq23+qr23+rp23\sqrt[3]{pq^2}+\sqrt[3]{qr^2}+\sqrt[3]{rp^2} is a nonzero rational number, prove that 1pq23+1qr23+1rp23\frac{1}{\sqrt[3]{pq^2}}+\frac{1}{\sqrt[3]{qr^2}}+\frac{1}{\sqrt[3]{rp^2}}

is also a rational number.

Problem 6

  • Day 2

Let Γ\Gamma and Γ1\Gamma_1 be two circles internally tangent at AA , with centers OO and O1O_1 and radii rr and r1r_1 , respectively ( r>r1r>r_1 ). BB is a point diametrically opposed to AA in Γ\Gamma , and CC is a point on Γ\Gamma such that BCBC is tangent to Γ1\Gamma_1 at PP . Let A′A' the midpoint of BCBC . Given that O1A′O_1A' is parallel to APAP , find the ratio r/r1r/r_1 .
