Other problems

Problem 1

Find the smallest natural number nn for which the number n2−n+11n^2-n+11 has exactly four prime factors (not necessarily distinct).

Problem 2

Let f(x)f(x) be a quadratic polynomial with two real roots in the interval [−1,1][-1,1] . Prove that if the maximum value of ∣f(x)∣|f(x)| in the interval [−1,1][-1,1] is equal to 11 , then the maximum value of ∣f′(x)∣|f'(x)| in the interval [−1,1][-1,1] is not less than 11 .

Problem 3

A regular tetrahedron of unit edge is given. Find the volume of the maximal cube contained in the tetrahedron, whose one vertex lies in the feet of an altitude of the tetrahedron.

Problem 4

Find the smallest integer n≥3n\ge3 for which there exists an nn -gon and a point within it such that, if a light bulb is placed at that point, on each side of the polygon there will be a point that is not lightened. Show that for this smallest value of nn there always exist two points within the nn -gon such that the bulbs placed at these points will lighten up the whole perimeter of the nn -gon.

Problem 5

Let AA be a fixed point on a circle kk . Let BB be any point on kk and MM be a point such that AM:AB=mAM:AB=m and ∠BAM=α\angle BAM=\alpha , where mm and α\alpha are given. Find the locus of point MM when BB describes the circle kk .

Problem 6

Let 0<k<10<k<1 be a given real number and let (an)n≥1(a_n)_{n\ge1} be an infinite sequence of real numbers which satisfies an+1≤(1+kn)an−1a_{n+1}\le\left(1+\frac kn\right)a_n-1 . Prove that there is an index tt such that at<0a_t<0 .
