Problem 1

Higher Secondary P1

A polygon is called degenerate if one of its vertices falls on a line that joins its neighboring two vertices. In a pentagon ABCDEABCDE , AB=AEAB=AE , BC=DEBC=DE , PP and QQ are midpoints of AEAE and ABAB respectively. PQ∣∣CDPQ||CD , BDBD is perpendicular to both ABAB and DEDE . Prove that ABCDEABCDE is a degenerate pentagon.

Problem 2

Higher Secondary P2

Let gg be a function from the set of ordered pairs of real numbers to the same set such that g(x,y)=−g(y,x)g(x, y)=-g(y, x) for all real numbers xx and yy . Find a real number rr such that g(x,x)=rg(x, x)=r for all real numbers xx .

Problem 3

Higher Secondary P3

Let ABCDEFABCDEF be a regular hexagon with AB=7AB=7 . MM is the midpoint of DEDE . ACAC and BFBF intersect at PP , ACAC and BMBM intersect at QQ , AMAM and BFBF intersect at RR . Find the value of [APB]+[BQC]+[ARF]−[PQMR][APB]+[BQC]+[ARF]-[PQMR] . Here [X][X] denotes the area of polygon XX .

Problem 4

Higher Secondary P4

If the fraction ab\dfrac{a}{b} is greater than 3117\dfrac{31}{17} in the least amount while b<17b<17 , find ab\dfrac{a}{b} .

Problem 5

Higher Secondary P5

Let x>1x>1 be an integer such that for any two positive integers aa and bb , if xx divides abab then xx either divides aa or divides bb . Find with proof the number of positive integers that divide xx .

Problem 7

Higher Secondary P7

If there exists a prime number pp such that p+2qp+2q is prime for all positive integer qq smaller than pp , then pp is called an "awesome prime". Find the largest "awesome prime" and prove that it is indeed the largest such prime.

Problem 10

Higher Secondary P10 XX is a set of nn elements. Pm(X)P_m(X) is the set of all mm element subsets (i.e. subsets that contain exactly mm elements) of XX . Suppose Pm(X)P_m(X) has kk elements. Prove that the elements of Pm(X)P_m(X) can be ordered in a sequence A1,A2,...Ai,...AkA_1, A_2,...A_i,...A_k such that it satisfies the two conditions: (A) each element of Pm(X)P_m(X) occurs exactly once in the sequence, (B) for any ii such that 0<i<k0<i<k , the size of the set Ai∩Ai+1A_i \cap A_{i+1} is m−1m-1 .
