Other problems

Problem 1

Consider the set SnS_n of all the 2n2^n numbers of the type 2±2±2±...,2\pm \sqrt{2 \pm \sqrt {2 \pm ...}}, where number 22 appears n+1n+1 times. (a)(a) Show that all members of SnS_n are real. (b)(b) Find the product PnP_n of the elements of SnS_n .

Problem 2

Find all triples (a,b,c)(a,b,c) of integers with abc=1989abc=1989 and a+b−c=89a+b-c=89 .

Problem 3

Show that it is possible to situate eight parallel planes at equal distances such that each plane contains precisely one vertex of a given cube. How many such configurations of planes are there?

Problem 4

We are given a circle kk and nonparallel tangents t1,t2t_1,t_2 at points P1,P2P_1,P_2 on kk , respectively. Lines t1t_1 and t2t_2 meet at A0A_0 . For a point A3A_3 on the smaller arc P1P2,P_1 P_2, the tangent t3t_3 to kk at P3P_3 meets t1t_1 at A1A_1 and t2t_2 at A2A_2 . How must P3P_3 be chosen so that the triangle A0A1A2A_0 A_1 A_2 has maximum area?

Problem 5

Find all real solutions of the system:

x2+2yz=x,x^2+2yz=x, y2+2zx=y,y^2+2zx=y, z2+2xy=z.z^2+2xy=z.

Problem 6

Determine all functions f:N0→N0f: \mathbb{N}_0 \rightarrow \mathbb{N}_0 such that f(f(n))+f(n)=2n+6f(f(n))+f(n)=2n+6 for all n∈N0n \in \mathbb{N}_0 .
