APMO 2006 Problem 4

  • Paper

Let A,BA, B be two distinct points on a given circle OO and let PP be the midpoint of the line segment ABA B. Let O1O_{1} be the circle tangent to the line ABA B at PP and tangent to the circle OO. Let ℓ\ell be the tangent line, different from the line ABA B, to O1O_{1} passing through AA. Let CC be the intersection point, different from AA, of ℓ\ell and OO. Let QQ be the midpoint of the line segment BCB C and O2O_{2} be the circle tangent to the line BCB C at QQ and tangent to the line segment ACA C. Prove that the circle O2O_{2} is tangent to the circle OO.
