AMC 12 2005b Problem 22

  • Paper

A sequence of complex numbers z0,z1,z2,...z_{0}, z_{1}, z_{2}, ... is defined by the rule

zn+1=iznzn‾,z_{n+1} = \frac {iz_{n}}{\overline {z_{n}}},

where zn‾\overline {z_{n}} is the complex conjugate of znz_{n} and i2=−1i^{2}=-1. Suppose that ∣z0∣=1|z_{0}|=1 and z2005=1z_{2005}=1. How many possible values are there for z0z_{0}?

\textbf{(A)}\ 1 \textbf{(B)}\ 2 \textbf{(C)}\ 4 \textbf{(D)}\ 2005 \textbf{(E)}\ 2^{2005}
