RU-ALLRUSSIAN 1971 Problem 2

    (1) A1A2A3\mathrm{A_1A_2A_3} is a triangle. Points B1\mathrm{B_1} , B2\mathrm{B_2} , B3\mathrm{B_3} are chosen on A1A2\mathrm{A_1A_2} , A2A3\mathrm{A_2A_3} , A3A1\mathrm{A_3A_1} respectively and points D1\mathrm{D_1} , D2\mathrm{D_2} D3\mathrm{D_3} on A3A1\mathrm{A_3A_1} , A1A2\mathrm{A_1A_2} , A2A3\mathrm{A_2A_3} respectively, so that if parallelograms AiBiCiDi\mathrm{A_iB_iC_iD_i} are formed, then the lines AiCi\mathrm{A_iC_i} concur. Show that A1B1\mathrm{A_1B_1} : A2B2\mathrm{A_2B_2} : A3B3=A1D1\mathrm{A_3B_3} = \mathrm{A_1D_1} : A2D2\mathrm{A_2D_2} : A3D3\mathrm{A_3D_3} .

    (2) A1A2…An\mathrm{A_1A_2\ldots A_n} is a convex polygon. Points Bi\mathrm{B_i} are chosen on AiAi+1\mathrm{A_iA_{i + 1}} (where we take An+1\mathrm{A_{n + 1}} to mean A1\mathrm{A_1} ), and points Di\mathrm{D_i} on Ai−1Ai\mathrm{A_{i - 1}A_i} (where we take A0\mathrm{A_0} to mean An\mathrm{A_n} ) such that if parallelograms AiBiCiDi\mathrm{A_iB_iC_iD_i} are formed, then the n lines AiCi\mathrm{A_iC_i} concur. Show that ∏AiBi=∏AiDi\prod \mathrm{A_iB_i} = \prod \mathrm{A_iD_i} .
