Prove that there exists a positive constant cc such that the following statement is true: Assume that nn is an integer with n⩾2n \geqslant 2, and let S\mathcal{S} be a set of nn points in the plane such that the distance between any two distinct points in S\mathcal{S} is at least 1 . Then there is a line ℓ\ell separating S\mathcal{S} such that the distance from any point of S\mathcal{S} to ℓ\ell is at least cn−1/3c n^{-1 / 3}. (A line ℓ\ell separates a point set S\mathcal{S} if some segment joining two points in S\mathcal{S} crosses ℓ\ell.)
