Other problems

Problem 1

Let ABCA B C be a triangle, II its in-centre; A1,B1,C1A_{1}, B_{1}, C_{1} be the reflections of II in BC,CA,ABB C, C A, A B respectively. Suppose the circum-circle of triangle A1B1C1A_{1} B_{1} C_{1} passes through AA. Prove that B1,C1B_{1}, C_{1}, I,I1I, I_{1} are concyclic, where I1I_{1} is the in-centre of triangle A1B1C1A_{1} B_{1} C_{1}.

Problem 2

Find all triples (p,x,y)(p, x, y) such that px=y4+4p^{x}=y^{4}+4, where pp is a prime and x,yx, y are natural numbers.

Problem 3

Let AA be a set of real numbers such that AA has at least four elements. Suppose AA has the property that a2+bca^{2}+b c is a rational number for all distinct numbers a,b,ca, b, c in AA. Prove that there exists a positive integer MM such that aMa \sqrt{M} is a rational number for every aa in AA.

Problem 4

All the points with integer coordinates in the xyx y-plane are coloured using three colours, red, blue and green, each colour being used at least once. It is known that the point (0,0)(0,0) is coloured red and the point (0,1)(0,1) is coloured blue. Prove that there exist three points with integer coordinates of distinct colours which form the vertices of a right-angled triangle.

Problem 5

Let ABCA B C be a triangle; ΓA,ΓB,ΓC\Gamma_{A}, \Gamma_{B}, \Gamma_{C} be three equal, disjoint circles inside ABCA B C such that ΓA\Gamma_{A} touches ABA B and AC;ΓBA C ; \Gamma_{B} touches ABA B; and BCB C, and ΓC\Gamma_{C} touches BCB C and CAC A. Let Γ\Gamma be a circle touching circles ΓA,ΓB,ΓC\Gamma_{A}, \Gamma_{B}, \Gamma_{C} externally. Prove that the line joining the circum-centre OO and the in-centre II of triangle ABCA B C passes through the centre of Γ\Gamma.

Problem 6

Let P(x)P(x) be a given polynomial with integer coefficients. Prove that there exist two polynomials Q(x)Q(x) and R(x)R(x), again with integer coefficients, such that (i) P(x)Q(x)P(x) Q(x) is a polynomial in x2x^{2}; and (ii) P(x)R(x)P(x) R(x) is a polynomial in x3x^{3}.
