Other problems

Problem 1

Consider an acute triangle ABCA B C and let PP be an interior point of ABCA B C. Suppose the lines BPB P and CPC P, when produced, meet ACA C and ABA B in EE and FF respectively. Let DD be the point where APA P intersects the line segment EFE F and KK be the foot of perpendicular from DD on to BCB C. Show that DKD K bisects ∠EKF\angle E K F.

Problem 2

Find all primes pp and qq, and even numbers n>2n>2, satisfying the equation

pn+pn−1+⋯+p+1=q2+q+1p^{n}+p^{n-1}+\cdots+p+1=q^{2}+q+1

Problem 3

Show that for every real number aa the equation

8x4−16x3+16x2−8x+a=08 x^{4}-16 x^{3}+16 x^{2}-8 x+a=0

has at least one non-real root and find the sum of all the non-real roots of the equation.

Problem 4

Find all 7-digit numbers formed by using only the digits 5 and 7 , and divisible by both 5 and 7 .

Problem 5

Let ABCA B C be a triangle with sides a,b,ca, b, c. Consider a triangle A1B1C1A_{1} B_{1} C_{1} with sides equal to a+b2,b+c2,c+a2a+\frac{b}{2}, b+\frac{c}{2}, c+\frac{a}{2}. Show that

[A1B1C1]≥94[ABC]\left[A_{1} B_{1} C_{1}\right] \geq \frac{9}{4}[A B C]

where [XYZ][X Y Z] denotes the area of the triangle XYZX Y Z.

Problem 6

In a lottery, tickets are given nine-digit numbers using only the digits 1,2,31,2,3. They are also coloured red, blue or green in such a way that two tickets whose numbers differ in all the nine places get different colours. Suppose the ticket bearing the number 122222222 is red and that bearing the number 222222222 is green. Determine, with proof, the colour of the ticket bearing the number 123123123 .
