Day 1

Problem 2

  • Day 1

Let ABCABC be an isosceles triangle with AB=ACAB = AC . MM is the midpoint of BCBC and OO is the point on the line AMAM such that OBOB is perpendicular to ABAB . QQ is an arbitrary point on BCBC different from BB and CC . EE lies on the line ABAB and FF lies on the line ACAC such that E,Q,FE, Q, F are distinct and collinear. Prove that OQOQ is perpendicular to EFEF if and only if QE=QFQE = QF .

Problem 3

  • Day 1

For any positive integer kk , let fkf_k be the number of elements in the set {k+1,k+2,…,2k}\{ k + 1, k + 2, \ldots, 2k\} whose base 2 representation contains exactly three 1s.

(a) Prove that for any positive integer mm , there exists at least one positive integer kk such that f(k)=mf(k) = m .

(b) Determine all positive integers mm for which there exists exactly one kk with f(k)=mf(k) = m .

Problem 4

  • Day 2

Find all ordered pairs (m,n)(m,n) where mm and nn are positive integers such that n3+1mn−1\frac {n^3 + 1}{mn - 1} is an integer.

Problem 5

  • Day 2

Let SS be the set of all real numbers strictly greater than -1. Find all functions f:S→Sf: S \to S satisfying the two conditions:

(a) f(x+f(y)+xf(y))=y+f(x)+yf(x)f(x + f(y) + xf(y)) = y + f(x) + yf(x) for all x,yx, y in SS ;

(b) f(x)x\frac {f(x)}{x} is strictly increasing on each of the two intervals −1<x<0- 1 < x < 0 and 0<x0 < x .

Problem 6

  • Day 2

Show that there exists a set AA of positive integers with the following property: for any infinite set SS of primes, there exist two positive integers mm in AA and nn not in AA , each of which is a product of kk distinct elements of SS for some k≥2k \geq 2 .
