Problem 2

A circle is inscribed in a rhombus ABCDA B C D. Points PP and QQ vary on line segments AB‾\overline{A B} and AD‾\overline{A D}, respectively, so that PQ‾\overline{P Q} is tangent to the circle. Show that for all such line segments PQ‾\overline{P Q}, the area of triangle CPQC P Q is constant.

Let S={1,4,8,9,16,…}S=\{1,4,8,9,16, \ldots\} be the set of perfect powers of integers, i.e. numbers of the form nkn^{k} where n,kn, k are positive integers and k≥2k \geq 2. Write S={a1,a2,a3…}S=\left\{a_{1}, a_{2}, a_{3} \ldots\right\} with terms in increasing order, so that a1<a2<a3⋯a_{1}<a_{2}<a_{3} \cdots. Prove that there exist infinitely many integers mm such that 9999 divides the difference am+1−ama_{m+1}-a_{m}.
