BALTIC-WAY 2006 Problem 18

For a positive integer $n$ let $a_{n}$ denote the last digit of $n^{\left(n^{n}\right)}$. Prove that the sequence $\left(a_{n}\right)$ is periodic and determine the length of the minimal period.
